There is an urgent need for alternative protein sources due to the rapid population growth, climate change, environmental degradation by pollution, food-fuel competition and reduction in arable land agricultural use. Conventional livestock production also deleterious environment of greenhouse gasses ammonia. This article provides insights into potentials edibleinsects as novel food ingredients. The manuscript concise explanations embracing additional sources, consumption their nutritional benefits economic advantages using food. Literature was gathered through online search on Science Direct database Google Scholar, relevant papers published between January 2002 November 2020 were cited. Edibleinsects are good source essential nutrients. They rich proteins amino acids, contain quality lipids significant amounts important minerals. potential humans animals. can play role global security providing nutrients increasing population. only be achieved when more attention given processing. Creating awareness among new consumers development products with appealing sensory properties will surely improve acceptance
